The School of Education at Queens University of Charlotte
The newly established School of Education at Queens University of Charlotte became a separate unit of the University in May, 2008. The founding dean, Dr. Darrel Miller, cites the strong history of education at the university, as well as the mission of the new school to help provide excellent educators for our region’s schools as the key reasons behind establishing the new school.
Queens’ School of Education offers an array of undergraduate and graduate programs:
- Bachelor of arts in elementary education (K-6)
- Master of arts in teaching (K-6)
- Master of education in literacy (K-12)
- Licensure at both the elementary and secondary levels
Queens is one of 18 North Carolina Teaching Fellows campuses. This program is dedicated to recruiting talented high school graduates into the teaching profession and helping them develop the leadership qualities needed to succeed.
In addition, the Public Education Research Institute is housed within the School of Education. The Institute is dedicated to dealing with key issues affecting local school districts both locally and nationally. The Institute will support research by the school’s students, faculty, and facilitate community education in support of Queens’ role as an educational resource for the community.
