Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009. The Center for Ethics and Religion at Queens will present as this year’s Witherspoon Lecturer Dr. Nancy Murphy, at 7 p.m. in Sykes Auditorium on the Queens University of Charlotte campus, 1900 Selwyn Avenue. The talk is free and open to the pubic.
Murphy, the author of nine books and a professor at Fuller Theological Seminary, is highly sought as a speaker at national and international conferences on the relationship between theology and science. Her first book, Theology in the Age of Scientific Reasoning (Cornell, 1990) won the American Academy of Religion award for excellence. Her most recent books are Bodies and Souls, or Spirited Bodies? (Cambridge, 2006); and (co-authored with Warren Brown) Did My Neurons Make Me Do It? Philosophical and Neurobiological Perspectives on Moral Responsibility and Free Will (Oxford, 2007).

Nov. 3, 2008 The Center for Ethics and Religion at Queens presented Dr. Everett Worthington, Jr., speaking on "Forgiveness: Psychology, Religion, Ethics," at 7 p.m. in Sykes Auditorium on the Queens University of Charlotte campus, 1900 Selwyn Avenue.
A professor at Virginia Commonwealth University and a clinical psychologist, Dr. Worthington has been conducting research on forgiveness since 1990. In the last ten years, since the murder of his mother, he has studied how forgiveness and justice work together and can oppose each other.
Oct. 28, 2008 The Center for Ethics and Religion at Queens presented Dr. James Howell, speaking on his new book, Conversations with St. Francis, at 7 p.m. in Sykes Auditorium on the Queens University of Charlotte campus, 1900 Selwyn Avenue.
The Senior Pastor of Myers Park United MethodistChurch, Howell is the author of twelve books. After his talk and a question and answer session, Dr. Howell signed copies of Conversations with St. Francis.
The book offers the reader an opportunity to “explore the deep questions of the life of the spirit with “God’s clown,’ St. Francis of Assisi.”
