Have you ever dreamed of going to far-off places? Then come to Queens and we will take you there — as part of our academic program. More than 90% of our students take advantage of this incredible opportunity to travel and study abroad at the end of their junior year, with most costs included in our comprehensive tuition. The national average? About 9%. At Queens, we believe that a college education is incomplete without a global perspective, something best gained by direct experience.
Full-time students in the College of Arts and Science at Queens University of Charlotte who are in good standing, have a minimum grade point average of 2.00 and have third-year status are eligible to participate. (Part-time students are eligible to participate on a space available basis by paying the full price of the program, and students who choose to take more than one study tour may also pay the full price for a second tour.) Students normally participate following completion of the spring semester of their junior year.
There are several options from which to choose:
- study tours to countries, including Greece, China, the United Kingdom, Italy, or Australia
- language & cultural immersion programs in France or Spain
- international internships
- study abroad semesters in Hong Kong, Northern Ireland or Australia
- environmental studies in Yap & Kosroe, Micronesia
For most of the study tours, the Yap program, and international internships, the John Belk International Program covers all the major expenses — air and ground transportation, accomodations with breakfast, and admission to museums and historic sites. Students pay for most lunches and dinners and all personal expenses. There are moderate supplements for the more extensive study tours and for the language immersion programs. Semesters in Australia, Hong Kong and Northern Ireland cost about the same as an equivalent semester at Queens, with scholarships and loans still in effect. For more details, you may call the John Belk International Program office at 704 337-2533 or email the College of Arts and Sciences Admissions Office.
Each spring, rising juniors select the program that best fits their interests and academic needs, or begin the application process for the special, more competitive programs. Students normally participate following completion of the spring semester of their junior year.
A college education is incomplete without a global perspective, best gained by direct experience. Our international programs are meaningful encounters with other cultures. Students must pass a semester-long preparatory course combining history, georgaphy, politics and culture in order to go. Wherever possible, students have home stays, and meet with local students and families. Plus, academic credit is given for both the preparatory course and the trip. Students explore the world not only to to discover the world, but also to discover themselves.
Almost 90% of Queens students take advantage of this opportunity. The national average for study abroad is 9%. Why don't you take advantage of this incredible offer of a lifetime? You'll be glad you did.
