This study tour offers students a first-hand experience of the varied layers of Italian culture and of many of the important historic sites and artistic works associated with the glories of ancient Rome, the medieval Church, and the Italian Renaissance. The study tour begins on the beautiful Amalfi Coast, with its striking views of the sea soaked in the Mediterranean sun. We will visit the amazing archeological site of Pompeii, take a climb up Vesuvius and board a boat for a day-trip over to lovely Capri. In Rome—“the eternal city”—students will explore the history, art and culture of one of Europe’s most incredible city with visits to the Colosseum, the Forum, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican, the Pantheon, the Villa Borghese, the Catacombs, and more. And, of course, there will be time to explore its fascinating piazzas, narrow lanes, and nooks and crannies. In comfortable Renaissance Florence, this unrivaled city of art, we will visit the numerous major historical and cultural locations, including some of the world’s greatest monuments, galleries and museums. Who hasn’t dreamed of seeing Michelangelo’s David or paintings by Raphael and Da Vinci up close? Finally, we will head to Venice for the delightful adventure of exploring one of the world's most unusual cities. Here, we will visit the incredible St. Mark’s cathedral and the Piazza San Marco, explore the sprawling Doge’s Palace, and wander on the Rialto and along the world-famous canals. |
