The Queens University of Charlotte campus is less than three miles away from Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. Charlotte is located in Mecklenburg County and is one of the fastest growing business and arts communities in the nation, a thriving metropolitan center known for outdoor recreation, quality of life and a vibrant business community.  The city lies just two hours from the Blue Ridge mountains and four hours from the beaches, three and a half hours from Atlanta, nine hours from Tampa, 24 hours from Fargo... well, you get the idea.

Sports and entertainment?  Go see the NFL Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium, take in a NBA Charlotte Bobcats game or Charlotte Checkers Hockey game at Time Warner Cable Arena, root for our Triple-A baseball team, the Charlotte Knights.  And don't forget NASCAR at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

How about music, theater or Broadway shows?  Check out the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, home to many of Charlotte's professional arts groups.  The neighborhood Theatre hosts an eclectic assortment of bands.  Clubs throughout the city will get you moving to the sounds of salsa, techno, country-western, swing... you name it. Into arts, sciences and history?  Visit the newly expanded Levine Museum of the New South or celebrate the spirit of the African American experience at the Afro-American Cultural Center; step into Charlotte's past and explore the Charlotte Museum of History or the Historic Latta Plantation; enjoy an interactive experience at Discovery Place, one of the nation's top hands-on science museums with a Planetarium and Omnimax Theatre.  See the latest exhibits at the Mint Museums of Art, then visit the Charlotte Historic Trolley Museum and take a trolley ride.  Stroll through Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens, 100 acres of themed gardens, fountains and trails; or Ribbon Walk, a 137-acre botanical forest and environmental education center or visit the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resource Center for more options.

Want more of the great outdoors?  Charlotte has 14,000 acres of parks and 19 recreational centers, ranging from playgrounds to sprawling 1,020-acre sites.  Most parks have picnic areas and many have fishing lakes, lighted tennis courts and athletic fields.  Lake Norman, to the north of the city, is North Carolina's largest man-made lake: called an Inland Sea, it has over 520 miles of shoreline.  Lake Wylie, to the south, has an estimated 325 miles of shoreline.  Both lakes are less than 30 minutes away.

If you are into a more rugged escape, visit the U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC).  It is just a few minutes away and hosts outdoor recreation and an environmental education center. In addition, you will find mountain-biking and running trails, a climbing center, and challenge course. The park’s most unique feature is a multiple-channel, customized whitewater river for rafting and canoe/kayak enthusiasts of all abilities. New adventures for family and friends abound at this state of the art recreation facility! 

If that is not enough for your adventurous spirit, you are welcome to visit Paramount's Carowinds Theme Park, the Greek Festival and Festival In The Park, the Carolina Raptor Center, Pops In The Park at SouthPark Mall, and too many other cultural opportunities to list.  Blessed with four distinctly beautiful seasons, a moderate climate and incomparable natural surroundings, and an incredibly diverse cultural palette, Charlotte offers something for everyone.

As a Queens student, you can take advantage of as little or as much of the Charlotte scene as you wish.  That's the beauty of it. It's not just recreation, either.  Our core program, internship program, and student development programs take students out of the classroom and introduce them to real-world opportunities in the Charlotte community.  It's the ultimate lab course.
