Introduction to Creative Writing

 A six-week course which explores creative writing in all its many facets. Writers will be encouraged to abandon the structures which have suppressed their creativity and to begin a journey of self-discovery and creative renewal through brief in-class exercises, imaginative assignments and journaling. We will examine why we write and why we don't and ways to stop procrastinating. Begin to make writing an integral life choice! A great class for all levels.

Instructor: Terri Wolfe received her Masters in Fine Arts for Creative Writing from Queens. Her award-winning poetry has appeared in a number of publications.

Memoir Writing with Gilda Morina Syverson
In this once-a-month highly individualized critique class, we will be reading and revising stories that you have already begun to write. Former students have been published, accepted in an M.F.A program, crafted their stories for family members now and in the future. Bring your writing for supportive feedback. Class Size Limited.

Instructor: Gilda Morina Syverson has taught in the creative arts for over 35 years. Her award-winning Italian family stories and poems have appeared in numerous literary journals, magazines and anthologies in the U.S. and Canada. Her commentaries have been aired on Charlotte’s NPR station. She is author of a collection of poems, In this Dream Everything Remains Inside.

Spinning Words into Gold - FULL!

This class will jumpstart your writing life and provide the tools to keep your words flowing. Learn specific techniques and exercises to create nonfiction, poetry and/or fiction as we tap into the Who’s, Why's, When’s, Where’s, What’s and How’s of writing. Whether you would like to keep a journal for your own personal growth, spin stories for your loved ones, or further a career as a professional writer, experience the satisfaction of developing a writing practice that works for you-come spin your words into gold! Text: Spinning Words into Gold, by Maureen Ryan Griffin , books will be available for purcahse in class, if needed. Class size limited.

The Process of Poetry withTony Abbott - FULL!
A seven week poetry workshop in which students will submit poems each week for analysis by the instructor and class members. Textbook is  "Selected Poems" by William Carlos Williams. (New Directions Paperback 602).  Students may purchase from Park Road Books prior to class.
Each week students will read and study a number of poems to understand how  Williams's  poems help individuals understand the workings of poetry and how to write their own poems.

Instructor: Anthony S. Abbott, the Charles A. Dana Professor of English Emeritus at Davidson College where he served as Chair of the department and Director of Creative Writing for many years. Mr. Abbot t   is the author of  two  novel s and four books of poems ,  the most recent book of  which , The Man Who,  was  honored by the Poetry Council of NC as the best book of poems published by a North Carolinian in 200 7.

QUEENS CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY:  In order to receive a refund, less a $50 processing fee, you must withdraw from a class in writing at least 10 working days prior to the start of the course. No refunds will be given after that time. Please note that if you do not officially withdraw from the course and do not attend the course, you are still responsible for the payment. If the course is canceled for any reason, you will be notified and your entire tuition fee will be refunded.
