The pre-requisites for admission to the BSN program are available on our website.
2. WHAT KIND OF GRADES ARE REQUIRED IF I WANT TO APPLY TO THE BSN?
In order to apply the BSN you must have:
• a minimum of 36 hours of college work
• a minimum cumulative gpa in all college work of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale
• a minimum grade of “C-“ is all pre-req courses and
• a minimum prerequisite GPA 2.50 on a 4.00 scale
The higher the gpa the better chance of admission.
3. WHAT IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS AND DEADLINES?
Detailed information about the admissions process is available on our website. Step one in the BSN admission process is to apply to Queens and to be accepted. The BSN program at QUC admits students for January and August admission. The deadline for application for admission for classes starting in January (Spring) is September 21. The deadline for application for admission for classes starting in August (Fall) is March 15. Decisions are mailed mid-November.
4. HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE ACCEPTED IN THE BSN PROGRAM?
The BSN program at PSN is approved for 180 pre-licensure students. The actual number admitted for any semester depends on the number of students that are currently enrolled.
5. I AM STILL WORKING ON PREREQUISITES, CAN I STILL APPLY?
Yes, you can apply to the program while you are working on prerequisites. Prerequisites must be completed by the time you start the nursing program. See FAQ question: WHAT ARE THE PRE-REQUISITES TO APPLY THE BSN PROGRAM AT QUC?
6. WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF BEING ADMITTED TO THE BSN PROGRAM?
Admission to the BSN program at Queens is competitive. Students must have completed, or be in the process of completing all pre-requisite courses and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale with a required "C-" or higher in all pre-requites courses. However, meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission to the College; the higher the gpa, the better the chance of admission. The number and quality of the applicants determine competitiveness of each applicant pool.
7. WILL IT HELP MY CHANCES FOR ADMISSION IF I TAKE COURSES AT QUEENS?
Prerequisite courses may be taken at any accredited college or university. However, when the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number that can be admitted, the number of hours taken at Queens is taken into consideration.
8. IF I AM CURRENTLY IN A NURSING PROGRAM AT ANOTHER INSTITUTION, MAY I TRANSFER INTO THE BSN PROGRAM AT QUEENS?
It is not advisable for students who are already in a nursing program at another school to attempt to transfer into Queens’ BSN nursing program. To transfer into the Queens program requires a petition process and a detailed evaluation of each course taken at the other school to assess equivalency and to determine remaining course work. It generally will take a student much longer to complete the requirements of the Presbyterian School of Nursing than it would take if the student remained in the original program. Also, there is no guarantee that the transferring student will be admitted into nursing program at Queens.
9. WHAT ARE THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH ENROLLMENT FOR THE BSN PROGRAM?
Information concerning tuition costs is available on the website for Student Financial Services.
10. DOES QUEENS OFFER AN ACCELERATED BSN PROGRAM?
Queens offers an accelerated BSN program for individuals with a previous Bachelors degree. Information concerning admissions, application and degree requirements is available online under Accelerated BSN.
11. HOW CAN I CALCULATE MY CUMULATIVE GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA)?
The GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total amount of credit hours attempted. Back to College offers an online calculator to help students figure out how to calcuate the GPA.
