Queens has been providing educational experiences that transform students’ lives and foster personal and professional success for more than a century. The University prides itself on a strong foundation – a Presbyterian heritage, an award-winning faculty, an innovative curriculum and an assortment of creative programs.
Since its founding in 1857, the University has transformed from an all-women’s college into a comprehensive university, serving its student population through its College of Arts & Sciences, McColl School of Business, Hayworth College for Adult and Evening Programs, Presbyterian School of Nursing and an expanding School of Education. The Queens of today is a thriving co-educational institution, boasting five N.C. Professors of the Year, 16 NCAA Division II men’s and women’s sports teams and exemplary international study and internship programs that have been named among the best in the country.
As we look back and reflect on our many achievements with a sense of pride, I feel even better about where we are going in the future. I am delighted to share that our last two freshman classes have been the largest in 30 years. We have also entered the public phase of our capital campaign and with the help of many generous alumni and friends, have garnered significant funding to support our facilities plan – in particular our new Sciences & Health Building. Other noteworthy accomplishments include the grand opening of the Lion’s Den Grille and Game Room, renovation of the Harris House Welcome Center and construction of the 65-acre Queens Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park. These improvements will help raise awareness of Queens among our many audiences and attract and retain the quality students needed to ensure the momentum from our first 150 years continues for many generations to come.
Going forward, our highest priority at Queens will be maintaining the tradition of excellence in education and providing transformational experiences that assure our students’ success. Queens has been a vital part of the Charlotte landscape for 150 years, serving as a community asset and educational resource. I encourage you to visit our campus, nestled among the signature oak trees of historic Myers Park, so that you too may begin living the “Queens experience” today.
Best wishes,
