Come on in, the water’s fine.
The faculty and staff of the School of Communication welcome you during a time when change literally crackles in the air. We’re excited about our mission of providing students with the ability to analyze and understand audiences, situations and sources, and to develop appropriate messages in a variety of contexts. We prepare undergraduate and graduate students to serve as leading practitioners in journalism, corporate and organizational communication, and in strategic business, community, civic and governmental leadership. We want our students to be fearless, and to embrace change as a way of life in an always-on world. With a foundation in the liberal arts, through practical use of technology and multimedia skills, and with an insistence on critical thinking skills, we want them to be fearless about the years ahead. Our students learn about the ethics of communication and the history of what has gone before, so that they will know what to do when confronted with major decisions. They will have the moral and ethical construct which builds character and good judgment. And they will enter the marketplace with confidence in their ability to engage in meaningful work. Many of our students will become media entrepreneurs. Because of our entrepreneurial environment and insistence on excellence in teaching, they will experiment with and become adept at media methodologies. And they will gain real knowledge from local and national internships, as well as study in other countries. They will lead us into products and ideas and relationships that we cannot imagine. We invite you to come by our newly opened Knight-Crane Convergence Lab, where students get real world experience in practical and theoretical communication. In an always-on world, our students will be always-on, ready to work and to learn and to take action. We’re on the move. Join us. If you have questions or ideas about our school, please contact me at kingv@queens.edu. My phone number is 704-337-2384, and my office is in Dana 110. Anyone in our school will be pleased to help you or show you around.
