Be on the lookout for blockbuster movies, lectures, coffeehouse events, outdoor concerts, comedians and other programs brought to you by Student Activities. Check out our online Calendar of Events or Student Activities Online Newsletter for a current listing of events every month. We are always thinking of new ways to have fun at Queens, but there are some things you can count on each year. Take a look at these annual traditions and events:
Kick off the holiday season and enjoy a special dinner with friends while being entertained by fellow classmates. The evening begins with the Honored Senior Procession and includes performances by the Queens University of Charlotte Dance Troupe and Chamber Singers. Be on the lookout for a surprise appearance from two of your favorite faculty or staff members dressed in medieval garb as they bring in the Yule Log.
Weekly worship service Thursday from 11:15-11:45 am. Chapel is open to the Queens community and is a simple service that often features the Gospel Choir, speakers from off-campus and time for sharing joys and concerns. You are invited to take part in weekly chapel services and explore your spirituality. For more information, please contact Chaplin Diane Mowrey at 704.337.2291.
Participate in a field day with elementary children from Myers Park Traditional School. Become involved by painting faces, tie-dying shirts, playing basketball, soccer or volleyball, or making arts & crafts with them. This is a once a year play day when the "little kids" get to play with the "big kids" next door. If you would like to volunteer to help out with Discovery Day 2007 or for more information, contact Jacqueline Harp at 704.337.2255 or harpj@queens.edu.
Invite your parents and family to spend a weekend in Charlotte, visit the campus, and meet faculty, staff and friends.
Formerly known as the Activities Day, Volunteer Fair, and Resource Fair, this is an information-packed event where students can find out more about on and off campus activities. Student organizations, human services agencies, and campus services will display information and sign-up sheets for students. Representatives are on hand to answer questions and talk about the opportunities offered to Queens students.
Celebrate the beginning of the Holiday Season with a Moravian fellowship service. Light candles and sing carols with the Queens and Charlotte communities.
Welcome to Casino Night - the annual formal event at Queens where you can win money and prizes. Well, maybe just prizes . . . Try your hand at blackjack, roulette, craps and more for your chance to win big prizes. And don't forget your dancing shoes - this event is complete with a DJ, food and lots of fun!
Ice skate at a private party at Pineville Icehouse for Queens students on the night before Reading Day.
From January to March, the Queens community hosts six homeless people one night a week. Cooking dinner, playing games, spending the night or preparing breakfast are among the ways people get involved.
Come out and support the men's and women's basketball teams. Enjoy the after-game party with a DJ or local band.
Enjoy bacon and eggs cooked and served by your favorite professors the night before exams begin.
Play carnival games and listen to bands outside on the Residence Hall Quad.
Every year, we honor the people, organizations and events that make the student experience so special here at Queens. This is a time for recognizing hard work, improvement and contribution to the campus community.
During your junior and senior years, you are invited to purchase an official Queens University of Charlotte ring. Each student who participates receives his or her ring from the President of the University at a reception for the students and their special guests. For more information on the official Queens University of Charlotte ring, check out Milestone Traditions.
