Supporting a community need
In almost every city, community agencies - like group homes, health centers, jails and prisons, child services organizations, substance abuse rehabilitation facilities - face daunting questions every day as they interact with their clients. Which programs deliver the desired results? How does an agency serve a multicultural client base? How does an agency measure success?
These community groups need leaders and employees who understand the factors and conditions that affect their clients. They need to hire skilled professionals who are prepared to design and implement programs that deal with the challenges their clients face.
An opportunity to make a difference
The interdisciplinary Human and Community Services major at Hayworth College gives students a deeper understanding and appreciation of the factors that influence individuals and groups served in the community. Classroom work, independent study and actual field work help students connect theory and practice, as well as give them a close-up glimpse of a number of different career opportunities. Students examine issues such as needs of specific populations, cross-cultural and ethical issues in human services and applied areas of social research such as program evaluation and outcome measurements for nonprofit organizations.
An energizing learning environment
Small, intimate classes mean students benefit from individual attention and support from the faculty. Guest speakers are frequent visitors with real experiences to share. In addition, other adult students bring diverse backgrounds to class and their knowledge adds to the learning experience.
A Human and Community Services major at Hayworth College develops students who will make a difference in their communities.
