Critical thinkers. Clear, concise writers. English majors.
On the most basic level, a Bachelor of Arts in English prepares graduates to read and write well. But there is so much more to be gained from an English degree.
Literature shows us what it is to be human. An English major in Hayworth College at Queens University has the unique opportunity to delve into civilization’s greatest writings and peer into mankind’s soul. Students can choose the Literature Track and spend the semesters immersed in the works of renowned poets, playwrights, novelists and essayists. Students, who want to write their own poems, stories and essays can choose the Creative Writing Track. Both tracks help students develop critical thinking and communication skills - skills that prepare them for nearly all non-technical career fields.
An intimate learning environment
Classrooms in the English department are always buzzing with intense discussions, lively lectures from faculty members and peer-to-peer exchanges. Professors take pride in sharing their expertise and experiences. Nearly all are published writers and award-winning teachers, dedicated to helping students grow.
The faculty knows adult learners have different challenges than traditional students, so they are committed to being available and approachable. Everyone in the English Department takes a personal interest in each student who enters the program.
Understanding the past and present to prepare for the future
