Conversations surrounding international relations, diplomacy, and Ukraine resonated throughout Queens University’s McInnes Parlors during a speech given by Polish Ambassador Marek Magierowski. The visit was part of the ambassador’s multi-day tour of North Carolina that included meetings with City of Charlotte officials and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper.

Ambassador Magierowski delivered a speech to students, faculty, and staff titled “Further Developing the Elysée Treaty: Poland, European Integration, Transatlantic Ties, and European Security Today.” The visit, which included a speech followed by a Q&A and networking reception, underscored the university’s commitment to international education.

“Queens has chosen a multi-disciplinary approach to learning and collaboration as one of the most significant pillars of our strategic framework,” said Queens President Dan Lugo. “That Ambassador Magierowski chose Queens for this visit emphasizes our strength in international education and highlights the importance we give to exposing our Queens community to this type of crucial discussion. Events like these continue to elevate Queens’ role in Charlotte as a convener of meaningful dialogue with influential global leaders.”

Following Ambassador Magierowski’s speech, a handful of international students asked him questions that stemmed from their own interests and experiences. Ambassador Magierowski touched on topics ranging from NATO to Polish and German relations.

Jan Delkeskamp ’23, a McColl School of Business student and member of the men’s swimming team from Germany, was instrumental in organizing the ambassador’s visit. He partnered with various groups across campus as well as Klaus Becker, chairman of The N.C. Zeitgeist Foundation, which sponsored the event.

As the program concluded, many Royals were able to shake hands with Ambassador Magierowski, thanking him for his message to the community and wishing him well.
