Biography

Dr. Tommy DeRossett earned his Ph.D. in experimental psychology, with a focus in social psychology, from Saint Louis University in the spring of 2022. Before that, he studied psychology and graduated with a bachelor’s of science from Murray State University. Dr. DeRossett is now an Assistant Professor of psychology at Queens University of Charlotte where he teaches a variety of courses for the department including general, organizational, and social psychology in addition to general education courses such as the psychology of race.

Additionally, Dr. DeRossett is an advocate for engaging students in empirical research. His own research typically examines how the relationship between one’s sense of self and various social identities may impact wellbeing, decision making, and belonging. He is always open to helping students develop research projects based on their own interests, too. His work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Religion and Health, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Psychology, the Journal of Sport Behavior, and Findings in Sport, Hospitality, Entertainment, and Event Management.

In addition to his teaching and research career, he also acts as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) consultant. These professional opportunities have allowed Dr. DeRossett to work with a variety of government, non-profit, and for-profit entities across the United States and Europe.

His favorite part of his position at Queens is the ability to help curious students think outside the box and critically evaluate information in order to become informed and impactful citizens. His office door is always open for chats about research, class, sports, movies, food, or anything else that comes to mind. He looks forward to continuing to develop his teaching, research, and service as a member of Queens University of Charlotte and the greater Charlotte, NC community.
