Helen L. Hull, Ph.D.

Biography

Helen L. Hull is an Associate Professor of Literary Studies in the Department of English & Writing Studies. She teaches Medieval-Renaissance British literature, First-Year Writing, and General Education literature courses. Her research interests include the representations of cities, politics (particularly the dichotomy of subjecthood and emerging modes of citizenship), and gender in Renaissance literature.

Dr. Hull is committed to helping students of all majors amplify their own voice. She is excited about helping students understand the power of reading closely and with context in mind; she is passionate about the empowering nature of writing, both as a means of communication and to develop and refine ideas. She is dedicated to creating community in her classroom, in her department, and on the university campus.

Dr. Hull has also served in administrative positions at Queens and in the Southeastern Renaissance Conference and the Marlowe Society of America. She is currently serving as Chair of the E&WS Department, as co-director of QLIT (Queens Literary Studies Undergraduate Research Program), and as Treasurer of the MSA.

Dr. Hull has been inducted into Sigma Tau Delta, the honors society for English majors, and into Phi Kappa Phi.
