Biography

Dr. Jeffrey Thomas has been on the faculty at Queens since 2010 and has taught at UCLA, Moorpark Community College and California State University, Northridge. At Queens, he teaches courses in animal behavior, evolution and science writing.

His research interests fall into two primary areas: animal behavior and the scholarship of teaching and learning with a particular focus on curriculum design. Recent projects related to the scholarship of teaching and learning have included work on equity in curricula, the effects of metacognition on learning and student success related to high impact practices.

Dr. Thomas’s work in behavior has involved projects on reproductive allocation and parthenogenesis in mantids as well as the evolution of communication in birds. Additionally, working with Dr. Scott Weir and the Carolina Raptor Center, he has helped develop projects related to ecological health in local communities.
