Biography
Dr. Julie McLaughlin Schmidt teaches several sociology courses, including Medical Sociology, Sociology of Mental Health, Gender and Society, Sociology of the Family, Social Problems, and Introduction to Sociology. She loves examining social influences on seemingly personal issues and enjoys classroom discussions where students share their insights.
Her research focuses on the social aspects of health, aging and the life course and she has articles published in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior, Journals of Gerontology, and Social Science Research. Research projects focus on the extent to which the timing of life transitions affects mental health.
