Biography

Alison Hiltz, a native of Charlotte, is the Director of the School Executive Leadership Academy. Alison, a retired public school principal, served as a school leader in both Wake County Schools and most recently Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. She has mentored numerous school administrators who now are successfully serving as principals and assistant principals in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

Alison began her career in education in 1981 as a special education teacher in Wake County schools. In 1995, she was promoted to a Special Education Specialist for Wake County Schools. In 1999, during the early charter school movement, she founded Community Partners Charter High School, a school for at-risk students in a traditional setting. She led this school until 2003. Later she served as the principal of Partnership Elementary in Raleigh, North Carolina. Returning to Charlotte, she became the principal of Mallard Creek Elementary. There she was selected as Principal of the Year for her learning community. In 2010 she was strategically staffed to be a turnaround principal at Druid Hills Academy, a PK-8 school in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

Alison earned her B.A. Special Education from Appalachian State University and M.S.A. School Administration from University of North Carolina, Raleigh.
