Carole Isom-Barnes, Ph.D.
Biography
Dr. Isom-Barnes is an Assistant Professor of Strategic Communication at Queens University in Charlotte teaching graduate business and organizational communication courses, on topics, such as constructing organizational messages, strategic planning, launching passion into practice, team/group development and leadership empowerment. She also serves as the graduate capstone manager and thesis advisor.
Dr. Isom-Barnes is a scholar-practitioner whose industry background includes senior leadership positions in various Fortune 100 organizations, including Bank of America. She has done extensive research on organizational change at the practitioner and educational levels.
As the president and owner of Xperience Leadership, L.L.C., a business management company she supports organizations in strategic planning, data analysis and leadership development.
She is a frequent speaker and panelist at academic and professional events. She presents on topics, such as, organizational leadership, social and economic disparities, and race and gender issues.
Dr. Isom-Barnes currently serves on the Boards of Antioch University, the University of North Carolina Continuing Education, the Carolinas College of Health Sciences, and Mecklenburg County Human Resources Advisory committee. She is a member of the International Leadership Association (I.L.A.), the National Communication Association (N.C.A.), and Women Executives of Charlotte (W.E.).
For several years, she served as a mentor and university coordinator for Women Initiating and Nurturing Growth through Scholarship (W.I.N.G.S.), a life-changing mentor and scholarship program for non-traditional female students at Charlotte, N.C. area universities.
She is the author of Layoff: American Dream Interrupted, capturing three-years of corporate research and Unemployment Disparities: Employee Insight and Personal Perspectives, a publication in collaboration with the Urban League of Central Carolinas, Inc.
Dr. Isom-Barnes possesses a Ph.D. in leadership and change and an M.A. in organizational communication. She is also Six Sigma certified in process management and performance improvement.
