About Us

Students at Clubs & Org fair

The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) aims to foster a community of care and invite students, staff, and faculty into a community of practice.

The Office of DEI embodies care in a number of ways. First, we listen with compassion to understand the experiences that members of our campus bring with them to Queens and the experiences they have while they are here. Second, we lead with curiosity by exploring what those experiences mean for each individual, what each individual might need to better succeed at Queens, and how we might serve in a resource, support, or advocacy role to help ensure those needs are met. Third, we make connections—between individuals, between communities, and to campus and community resources to support connection, increase belonging, and promote success.

We also partner with individual staff and faculty and administrative and academic departments to identify ways to make our practices more accessible, equitable, inclusive, and affirming for the students and employees on campus. Our collaborations are designed to be transformative—not merely transactional. We seek not just to do but to be—to live our values through practices we seek to hone and refine—through individual efforts and collective reflection—on an ongoing basis.
