About Our Program

Are you looking to take your teaching in a new direction? Want to make a change and specialize in a sought-after area? The Master of Education (M.Ed.) offered through the Queens University Cato School of Education has everything you’re looking for.

Our M.Ed. program is designed to help educators like you better serve your students and facilitate learning and teaching across all fields. You will have the opportunity to customize your experience and specialize in areas such as:

  • Literacy K-12
  • SPED (general curriculum)
  • AIG

You will also work directly with faculty members who have decades of experience serving as K-12 educators, coaches, and facilitators. These educational leaders maintain deep connections with local schools and districts, working with administrators and teachers to understand current standards, best practices, and trends. They are experts and advocates, and they are committed to ensuring the next generation of educators are prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities of our modern educational system.

Selected Courses

Supervision to Improve Instruction (EDU 631): You’ll engage in an exploration of the role of the school executive in supervising and improving instruction. Topics include teacher coaching, professional development, best practices, collegiality, and shared leadership.

Leading in a Global Society (EDU 642): You’ll be introduced to the critical role that leaders have in the success of schools, the success of systems, the success of a global community, and the success of the individual student. In addition, you’ll reflect on the history of the principalship and various leadership theories.

Education Law and Ethics (EDU 667): This course is designed to lead you through an examination of both the ethical and legal dimensions of school leadership. You’ll explore legal issues facing students and educators as well as landmark court cases that have shaped the schools of today.

Improving Instruction Using Data (EDU 676): You’ll focus on the critical expectation that school executives can create processes for the collection and use of student assessment data for the purpose of improving classroom instruction.
