Application Deadlines

We offer three start dates so you can pursue your graduate studies on your timeline: summer, fall, and spring. Below, you will find the application deadlines that correspond to each start date.

General

Fall – August 15

Spring – December 1

Summer – May 1

MFA in Creative Writing

Fall – July 1

Spring – October 1 October 15

Admissions Process

Here you will find all the information you need on our 3-step application process, as well as additional requirements based on your program of choice.

Step One: Submit Your Application

Let’s get started! You can access the Queens application for graduate school admissions at the following link. (Note: This application serves all graduate programs at Queens, and you will be able to specify your program of interest in the application.)

Step Two: Send Official Transcript(s)

All applicants to our graduate programs are required to have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and to submit transcripts from all colleges and/or universities you have attended. You can submit them either electronically or by mail.

Official paper transcripts must be in a sealed envelope and mailed directly from the college or university you attended to the following address:

Step Three: Additional Information Required by Graduate Program

At Queens University, we work diligently to get to know our applicants in a holistic way. We want to know who you are, what motivates you, and why you have chosen our institution for the next phase of your education. To that end, several of our graduate programs have implemented unique application requirements to better understand you and your goals and to set you up for success once you’re enrolled.

Personal Statement: Submit a personal statement addressing the following questions within the Personal Statement Guidelines.

Current Resume or Curriculum Vitae: Submit a current resume outlining work experience, qualifications, and skills. This document can be uploaded to the online application.

Experience: Applicants must have at least 2 years of professional teaching experience.

Current Resume: We ask all applicants to submit a current resume outlining your academic and professional background, as well as recognitions, honors, and awards.

Personal Statement: Your application must also include a personal statement describing your professional and personal goals.

Internship Requirement: Applicants must have a connection to a public, private, or charter school where you can complete your internship requirements.

Interview: Applicants must participate in an admissions interview, which gives us an opportunity to get to know you better, put additional context around your application, and evaluate your admissions file from a holistic perspective.

Testing: While the testing is not required, a GMAT or GRE score may be requested by the admissions committee if more information is needed to make an admission decision. Additionally, a strong GMAT or GRE will strengthen your overall file and may qualify you for additional scholarship or fellowship awards.

NC Teaching License: Current teachers seeking graduate certificate with license option must submit a copy of a valid, non-provisional, non-expired North Carolina teaching license.

Personal Statement: Applicants are required to submit a personal statement describing your professional and personal goals.

Testing: While the testing is not required, a GRE score may be requested by the admissions committee if more information is needed to make an admission decision.

Official, passing GRE scores of 150 Verbal and 150 Quantitative will be considered.

Personal Statement: Applicants are required to submit a one page, single-spaced personal statement, which speaks to what you expect to gain from the program and what you hope to contribute to it.

Letter of Recommendation: Applicants are required to submit one letter of recommendation. The recommendation should be from an academic or professional contact who can address your intellectual capacity, skillset, abilities, and readiness for graduate school.

Writing Sample: Applicants are required to submit a writing sample for each genre applying for. Please submit one document per genre, regardless of the number of individual pieces included in the sample for that genre. Pages should be numbered and the applicant’s name, the title, and genre of the piece should appear in the header or footer of each page.

  • Fiction and Nonfiction portfolios should be about 25 double-spaced pages.
  • Writing for Stage and Screen portfolios should be 25 formatted pages.
  • Poetry portfolios should be 10 single-spaced pages. (Please place only one poem per page for poems less than a page long.)

Nursing License: You need a current, unrestricted license to practice nursing in the state where you intend to complete your clinical requirements.

Degree Requirement: Applicants must have an associate degree in nursing or above.

Testing: While the testing is not required, a GMAT or GRE score may be requested by the admissions committee if more information is needed to make an admission decision.
