Diwali
Diwali
Queens University of Charlotte annually celebrates Diwali, welcoming neighbors and friends from the Charlotte Hindu Temple to guide our celebrations. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the history and meaning of Diwali, and to share the riches of Indian culture, including song, dance, Rangoli artwork, as well as delicious snacks.
Diwali, known as the “Festival of Lights,” is a five-day holiday celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. It is celebrated by lighting lamps, decorating homes, performing prayers, sharing sweets, and lighting fireworks, with celebrations often centered on welcoming the goddess Lakshmi for wealth and prosperity, and honoring other deities and events depending on the tradition.
