ROAR – Advising & Placement Tests

As you are finishing your finals in high school, we are excitedly preparing for you at Queens.

Advising & Class Registration

Academic advising/class registration will be done virtually (video call) in June.

By mid-June, you will receive an email from your academic advisor asking you to sign up for your virtual advising appointment. Appointments will generally take place between June 10-27. Make sure to check your Spam/Junk folders for any emails and respond promptly.

If you have questions before hearing from your advisor, please email academicadvising@queens.edu.

Calculus & Foreign Language Placement Tests

Tests will take place during orientation (ROAR). After you register for ROAR, a sign-up form for placement tests will appear in your Admissions portal checklist.

Calculus Readiness Test

The Calculus Readiness Test determines if you can proceed directly into calculus (bypassing pre-calculus).

Take the test if:

  • You took pre-calculus in high school and feel that you may be prepared to move directly into calculus.
    and
  • You are pursuing a major or minor (generally only STEM tracks) OR a pre-health track (pre-dental, pre-medical, pre-veterinary, etc.) that requires calculus.

Language Placement Test

Queens requires two courses in a foreign language (the 101 and 102 levels) unless you demonstrate proficiency via the placement test.

Your placement score could fulfill one or both of these course requirements. If you have an interest in enrolling in higher-level courses to progress in a language or interest in pursuing a language major or minor, your score will also determine your starting level here at Queens.

Take the test if:

  • You have any experience in one of the tested languages – French, German, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, or Russian.

Placement Test Registration

After registering for ROAR, you’ll find the Placement Test sign-up form on your Admissions portal checklist.
