Academic Advising
Academic Advising
Academic advising at Queens is a partnership between student and advisor. Advisors are assigned to a student based on their major or area of interest. They work with students to create meaningful educational goals that align with their personal interests, values, and strengths.
We offer professional, full-time advisors as well as faculty advisors to support student development at each phase of their college career.
Advising for First-Year Students and Sophomores
Our first-year students work with their initial advisor, referred to as their Royal Advisor, until the spring of sophomore year. Royal Advisors are focused on supporting students with their transition to college, navigating resources, understanding curriculum, and exploring academic and co-curricular* opportunities to enhance their experience at Queens.
*By co-curricular we mean all the activities and learning experiences that take place outside of the classroom such as sports teams, clubs, academic competitions, theatre performances, etc.
Advising for Juniors, Seniors and Transfer Students
As students enter their upper-level years at Queens, they work with faculty advisors specific to their major. Advising support shifts into encouraging students to dive deeper into their curriculum and engage in opportunities that support students’ individual career or professional school goals.
Advising for Post-Traditional / Adult Students
Advising for post-traditional / adult students is a collaboration between a full-time, professional advisor in the Center for Student Success and faculty advisors in the student’s program of study. This model provides students with dedicated support to navigate the challenges of balancing work and family life alongside academics while also connecting students to professionals in their academic fields.
