JBIP FAQs

If you are a senior and have not participated in the program, we urge you to consider the faculty-led program that takes place over Winter Break. If you wish to select a program that takes place in the summer after you graduate, you must appeal to the Executive Director of PCIE and delay your graduation to the month following your return from abroad (e.g., if you return in May, your graduation may not be finalized until June). However, you may still request permission from the Registrar’s Office to walk in the May graduation ceremony.

Yes! Students on faculty-led programs can request to extend their time abroad by:

  • contacting the PCIE Assistant Director for Global Education Programs to inform PCIE of their plans.
  • purchasing their own return ticket. Airlines no longer permit deviations on group flights so students will not be refunded any money for the cost of the return flight they choose not to utilize.

Students who elect to extend their trip will not be permitted to “add back on” to the group flight at any time. If a student changes their mind about extending the trip, then they will be responsible for purchasing a return flight home.

Students traveling on an independent program (semester/year abroad, summer programs, language immersion, or internships) have some flexibility with their flights since they are not on group flights. Please contact the PCIE for the process regarding these requests.

Students traveling on short-term faculty-led programs must depart with the group from the Charlotte airport—no exceptions. Students who will not be in Charlotte prior to the program departure should plan to return to Charlotte at least one day PRIOR to the group departure date. The PCIE is unable to assist with finding housing for students in this scenario.
