JBIP Eligibility

Requirements & Qualifications for Receiving JBIP Funding

To receive JBIP funding, students must meet the following criteria at the time of application:

  • be a full-time undergraduate student paying comprehensive tuition;
  • be a sophomore who has completed a minimum of four regular semesters of university study*; and
  • have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.000 for faculty-led programs or 2.75-3.20 for independent programs (please reach out to the PCIE for program-specific GPA requirements);

You must have this minimum GPA when you apply for a program, when you enroll and take the JBIP prep course, and/or in the semester leading up to your travel abroad.

*First-year students may apply to study abroad in the Queens summer business programs in France and China and language immersion programs if they wish to participate in the summer after sophomore year. They should contact the PCIE before the application deadline to request this exception and must adhere to all other deadlines and eligibility requirements.

Students may participate in a study abroad program without JBIP funding at any time during their Queens experience if they meet all other eligibility criteria, there is space available, and they pay the full cost of the experience.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Be in good standing with the Honor Code in the semester of travel abroad.
  • Complete the semester’s work immediately before the program.
  • Remain in good financial standing with the university.
  • Agree to abide by all university rules and regulations governing study abroad. (These are available in the JBIP Handbook.)

Transfer Students & BSN Students

Transfer students are eligible for JBIP funds and must meet all of the eligibility requirements listed above, but must complete four semesters at Queens before graduating. For every semester missing from the four full-time semesters at Queens requirement, the transfer student must pay a supplement of $800 per semester. This supplement is in addition to the refundable deposit and any other supplements.

BSN students who pay comprehensive tuition for at least four semesters before graduating will be treated like transfer students.

    -OR-
